Airfield Pavement- Layered Elastic Flexible Design

This webinar describes the new pavement design procedure currently in final development by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The design procedure is contained in a software package known as LEDFAA V1.3, and was approved for use by the FAA on April 30, 2004. Many airports and engineering consultants are currently using the program to assist them in preparing pavement designs for airfields which accommodate aircraft not addressed in the historic design procedures. The seminar discusses the underlying principles of the design procedure and provides a detailed demonstration of the program. 1 hour.

Innovative Bicycle Treatments
In March 1999, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) initiated the formation of a Pedestrian and Bicycle Task Force to develop better information for transportation professionals on pedestrian and bicycle facilities. In the summer of 2001, the Task Force became an ITE Council. One of the projects identified by the Task Force members was the need to provide better information on bicycle innovations. Many jurisdictions are employing new bikeway and bicycle parking design treatments. The intent of this report is to identify innovations and share information on their applications, advantages and disadvantages. The webinar-on-CD is co-sponsored by ASCE's Transportation & Development Institute and ASCE Continuing Education.

An Introduction to Roadside Delineation and Safety Systems
This webinar-on-CD will focus on how roadsides, especially in rural areas, should be delineated to prevent drivers from leaving the roadway. The use of edge lines, delineators, chevron signs and object markers will be addressed. The second half of the presentation will concentrate on safety systems aimed at reducing the severity of crashes once the road user has left the roadway. Shoulder and centerline grooving, guard rails/ median barriers and their end treatments, runaway truck escape ramps will be discussed. The importance of providing clear zones and breakaway devices will also be discussed. 1 hour.

The Modern Roundabouts As a Traffic Signal Alternative - 2 Part Series

About 65% of all crashes in urban areas, and 40% of all crashes in rural areas, occur at or near intersections or driveways. Because crashes are typically complex events, a great diversity of mitigation measures have been tried with varying degrees of success, including the so-called modern roundabout. This webinar on CD focuses on the best practices for designing roundabouts that maximize the safety of all road users. Lessons learned from the results of recent research are shared as well as the best sources of information about roundabouts. Examples are shown of recent roundabout installations in Europe as well as the U.S.A. Also covered are the concept of turbo roundabouts and the proposed MUTCD changes on how roundabouts are to be signed and marked. 2 hours

On Site Circulation for Commercial Development

This webinar-on-CD provides hands-on training for engineers and planners on how to effectively and safely design sites serving new and existing office and commercial developments, taking into consideration the needs of all road users (motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists). It also provides a sound technical foundation for preparing materials needed to process development projects. Necessary tools and good practices for providing good on site circulation, from the perspectives of both the agency and the developer proposing the project, are covered. This webinar-on-CD is co-sponsored by ASCE's Transportation & Development Institute and ASCE Continuing Education. 1 hour.

Traffic Calming – 2 Part Series

Although many agencies have been using traffic calming strategies for many years, the results have been mixed. This is because a lot of agencies failed to put into place a comprehensive set of procedures for process requests from the public to address neighborhood traffic management issues. This webi-nar-on-CD provides information on how to establish a neighborhood traffic management process including the development of a manual, how this process should be administered, the issues involving the primary stakeholders, and where the pitfalls lie. Includes a case study. This webinar-on-CD is cosponsored by ASCE's Transportation & Development Institute and ASCE Continuing Education. 2 hours.
