Task Committee On Urban Shorelines

Purpose: The majority of America's population lives or works in urban areas near our coasts, lakes, and rivers. Demographic samples indicate that these populations will continue to increase. While urban shorelines are occasionally available to the urban dweller for recreation, these areas are unwelcoming, inaccessible, or dangerous. The Urban Shorelines Task Committee recognizes that beaches provide important elements for the physical and mental well being of the people of this nation. It will undertake workshops, conferences, symposia, and other mechanisms, both independently and with other associations, to assist in the discussions and information dissemination necessary to develop, operate, and maintain lake, river, and ocean beaches in or near urban areas.
