Messages from The Campaign Leadership

150 years of service to the civil engineering community is a remarkable milestone for the American Society of Civil Engineers. Since its founding in 1852, members of the Society have contributed profoundly to the advancement of our nation's economic growth, general welfare, and national security. Civil engineering has enabled us to improve the quality of life not only in our great nation, but on all seven continents around the world. It is a profession in which I take great pride and satisfaction as my chosen life's work. I encourage the entire civil engineering and construction community to come together to support 2002: Building The Future.

2002: Building The Future
As the new millennium dawns, the civil engineering, construction, and environmental community is contending with the challenge of accelerating the movement of innovation into practice. The world of tomorrow cannot be sustained by the same materials, technologies, and practices of yesterday. CERF recognizes the need to better prepare our workforce on the uses and benefits of innovation to ensure our industry's future value and competitiveness in the 21st century. I ask everyone involved in our profession to join me in contributing to 2002: Building The Future.

2002: Building The Future
Since I joined the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1951, the world has seen changes few of us could have then imagined. But one thing remains constant. ASCE is the most respected voice and the most effective advocate for civil engineering in the world. Wherever this new century leads, our profession must and will play a critical role in getting us there. 2002: Building The Future provides a unique opportunity to help us build the future for the civil engineering profession.

2002: Building The Future
CERF has worked diligently within the design, construction, and environmental community as the voice of research and innovation. It effectively spans the critical gap between research activities and the implementation and commercialization of innovative technology. 2002: Building The Future will provide resources for CERF to advance the introduction and use of innovative technology for a better built environment.
