Lt. General Henry J. Hatch, P.E., Hon.M.ASCE


Lt. General Henry J. Hatch, P.E., Hon.M.ASCE earned his bachelor's degree at the United States Military Academy and his master's degree in geodetic science at The Ohio State University. The former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Commander, Hatch began his career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in 1957 when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He completed assignments that included commanding the engineer battalion of the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, serving as a staff officer at the Pentagon, commanding the Nashville District of the USACE and teaching at his alma mater, the United States Military Academy. More recently, Hatch acted as chief operating officer of ASCE until retiring in 2000. Hatch continues to serve ASCE in a volunteer capacity on the Technical Activities Committee's Committee on Sustainability, and previously was a member of the International Activities Committee, including three years as its chair. In 2004, Hatch was named an honorary member of the Society and was awarded ASCE's Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Award Lifetime Achievement for Government in 2006.
