Committee on Younger Members

Charge
The Committee shall encourage the full professional development of engineers 35 years of age or younger and endeavor to increase their participation in all levels of the Society by:

  1. identifying issues of interest to young engineers.
  2. facilitating the development of positions/responses to such issues;
  3. developing, implementing and reviewing programs which focus on the resolution of these issues and
  4. fostering interaction with Sections, Branches, Younger Member Councils, and Student Organizations.

The Committee shall, on a continuing basis, seek to develop:

  1. professional program sessions on subjects related to the basic charge to the committee, for presentation at National meetings of the Society, and
  2. articles related to the same charge, for consideration by the Editor of the Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice, ASCE News, and Civil Engineering magazine.

Meetings
CYM generally meets twice yearly in different locations throughout the country. Members are welcome to attend, however, there will be certain topics that may only be discussed among committee members.

Positions Available
In early 2010, nomination forms and duty descriptions will be available for positions opening in October 2010. These positions are: Central Geographic Member, Younger Member Leadership Symposium (YMLS) At-Large Member, and Corresponding Member.
