WELCOME TO ASCE
Thank you for joining the thousands of other civil engineering professionals who have chosen ASCE membership to help them better define their role in today's complex civil engineering profession. ASCE, founded in 1852, has a distinguished history of providing you, the civil engineer the products, services, and resources designed to help you meet your career goals — whether you are still "getting your feet wet" in the profession-or are proudly looking back on a lifetime of achievements. To enhance the value of your ASCE membership, you have the opportunity to select membership in one of ASCE's technical specialty Institutes — at no additional cost. The Institutes work to advance the knowledge and practice of specific civil engineering specialties by focusing on the technical, educational, and professional issues within that area. Membership in one of ASCE's seven Institutes brings you together with other professionals within your specialty and provides you with a variety of additional resources. All ASCE members are eligible for membership in one Institute at no additional cost. Additional Institute memberships are available for only $20 each. Click on any Institute link below to discover that Institute's numerous membership benefits. To request additional Institute information, or to join an Institute, please call 703-295- 6000 or 703-295-6351. Technical Committees Work of ASCE's Technical Activities Committee (TAC) facilitates development of technologies through Divisions and Councils representing about 200 technical committees that define the standards, direction, and focus of the profession. As new developments occur in research and practice, ASCE's technical divisions and councils and their respective technical committees bring information to the membership through conferences and workshops and by publications such as manuals of practice, pre-standards, journal articles, and policy statements. Work under the technical activities include more than 14 annual conferences and workshops, published 10 journals with over 575 articles. More than 5,000 ASCE members participate in these technical Committees. Their work addresses programmatic thrust areas as in Sustainable Built Environment, Sustainable Transportation, Extreme Environment and Information Technology.
