Codes and Standards Program

The Codes and Standards Program of ASCE, which is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), develops consensus standards on a variety of topics for the civil engineering profession. ASCE's standards program is regularly audited to ensure compliance with the ASCE Rules for Standards Committees and that it is consistent with the fundamental tenets of ANSI.

The standards committees are grouped by their general subject areas within one of the seven Institutes of ASCE. To locate a specific standards committee please click on the appropriate link below: The ASCE Codes and Standards Committee (CSC) is responsible for enforcing and maintaining ASCE Rules for Standards Committees and the ASCE Standards Writing Manual based on the ANSI Essential Requirements: Due process requirements for American National Standards:

    Balloting of ASCE standards consists of two parts: committee balloting and a public comment period. Both are conducted via a Web-based balloting system:

    The CSC is also responsible for setting ASCE's codes and standards-related policies and procedures, and reports to the ASCE Board of Direction. Its members are drawn from each Institute that has active standards committees. Currently all seven Institutes of ASCE are actively engaged in standards development activities.
