Codes and Standards ProgramThe Codes and Standards Program of ASCE, which is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), develops consensus standards on a variety of topics for the civil engineering profession. ASCE's standards program is regularly audited to ensure compliance with the ASCE Rules for Standards Committees and that it is consistent with the fundamental tenets of ANSI.The standards committees are grouped by their general subject areas within one of the seven Institutes of ASCE. Construction Institute Coasts, Oceans, Ports and Rivers Institute Environmental and Water Resources Institute Geo-Institute Structural Engineering Institute Transportation and Development Institute The Codes and Standards Committee approved the following awards, as well as their criteria and procedures for presentation on October 22, 2006: Balloting of ASCE standards consists of two parts: committee balloting and a public comment period. Both are conducted via a Web-based balloting system: The CSC is also responsible for setting ASCE's codes and standards-related policies and procedures, and reports to the ASCE Board of Direction. Its members are drawn from each Institute that has active standards committees. Currently all seven Institutes of ASCE are actively engaged in standards development activities.
