ASCE Geomatics DivisionDear Fellow ASCE Member,The science of geomatics represents the fundamental basis for many civil engineering projects by providing the necessary link between the real world and the theoretical world in which design documents are created. The Executive Committee of the Geomatics Division is seeking feedback from the general membership to help us focus on the current issues in the geomatics specialty that are of interest to the membership of ASCE as a whole. We are soliciting topics for future educational programs and reference materials that will help you increase your awareness of the science of geomatics, thereby improving the efficiency of your design processes and the constructability of your projects. Are you mandated to use state plane coordinates in your designs while unaware of the pitfalls encountered when working on a projected surface? Are you required to provide your clients with data in a GIS format and find you are unfamiliar with the differences between CAD drawings and geodatabases? Have you heard all the hype about the Global Positioning System and wonder how it is being applied in engineering and construction today? Let us know where your interests lie by completing the attached questionnaire, and the Geomatics Division will organize a seminar or compile a reference manuscript to further your understanding of these topics. As busy professionals ourselves, we sincerely appreciate your efforts in answering these questions and thank you for helping to provide the necessary direction for this critical division within ASCE. Thank you, Joseph B. Priestner, PE, PLS Member, Acting Executive Committee ASCE - GD |
