The EMI counts among its assets its major responsibility for eight very prestigious medals. These medals are named after world-class outstanding mechanicians. Each of these medals is held in very high regard in the mechanics community. The von Karman Medal, in particular, is largely considered as one of the highest honors in Engineering Mechanics in all disciplines.
The EMI medals are administered by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
