Begun in 1853, Distinguished Membership is ASCE's highest recognition and among the Society's oldest honors. It is reserved for ASCE
who demonstrate eminence in some branch of engineering or in its related arts and sciences.
Nominees must be either an ASCE Member or Fellow, and be considered eminent in a civil engineering branch. Practitioners and academics can be nominated.
Recently elected Distinguished Members have been CEOs of engineering firms, top researchers in an engineering discipline, and renowned educators preparing the next generation of civil engineering professionals.
