ASCE
Educational Outreach

Introducing children to engineering through fun, hands-on activities is a natural way to increase their understanding of an "invisible" profession, as well as broaden their career options. ASCE's educational outreach programs reach children, their parents and educators all over the country. From the award-winning Building Big miniseries to building towers out of newspapers, ASCE offers the tools to help our members plan and lead outstanding educational outreach programs.

ASCE's educational outreach programs include:
Get kids thinking about structures they see every day by teaching basic physical science concepts through interactive programs.
A comprehensive educational booklet that introduces kids ages 8-12 to the scope and challenges of the engineering profession, in an engaging kid-friendly format.
Through a series of related exhibitions and programs, the exhibit explores the relationship of the public to the civil engineering networks that define modern life.
The purpose of the contest is to provide middle school and high school students with a realistic, engaging introduction to engineering.
Combining a popular PBS program's fun, kid-tested activities with the opportunity to interact with real engineers, this program allows kids to show how engineering is important to their lives and how these exciting activities apply to things engineers do everyday.

The newly established Committee for Pre-College Outreach is charged with developing new outreach resources that will continue to improve our efforts to bring civil engineering to students at all age levels. We urge you to share your outreach experiences, your thoughts on the resources you need, and your ideas of areas where the Society must strengthen its efforts by emailing the committee at outreach@asce.org.

Any amount of money spent to educate a child on any subject, engineering or otherwise, can never be considered a wasted venture. Your contributions are not just an investment in a child, but an investment in the future of engineering.
