Overview:
All participants in the e-Mentoring program will be active ASCE members. The e-Mentoring site will host the profiles of available mentors and interested protégés and provide the platform for a connection to occur. The mentoring relationship will be initiated by the protégé seeking a specific element of support and guidance.
Process:
» Agree - to voluntarily participate as a mentor or protégé or both
» Post - your profile
» Search - the database of expert mentors
» Select - an available mentor
» Invite - the mentor to enter the mentoring relationship
» Begin - the mentoring relationship outside the E-mentoring platform
» Closing, Ending, Starting Over
Agree
Mentors and protégés will be asked to reaffirm their commitment to the ASCE Code of Ethics and acknowledge their understanding of the expectations for participation in the program.
Post
Mentors and protégés will be guided through a series of questions and other pertinent information into an electronic profile that will drive the search for compatible matches.
Search
Once the protégé has completed a profile, he/she will select search criteria. The e-mentoring system will return a list of all available mentors who match the selected criteria.
Select
Once the search results are returned, the protégé will review the mentor profiles and select a mentor(s).
Invite
After the protégé has made a selection, an automated invitation will be e-mailed to the selected mentor inviting the recipient to enter into a mentoring relationship with the requesting protégé. When the mentor accepts the invitation, the protégé and mentor will be listed as an active match in the e-Mentoring system. Once the Mentor accepts the invitation, contact information will be provided to the protégé who will then contact the mentor via e-mail to explain his/her needs and goals. The protégé and mentor will collaborate to determine the details of time and frequency of contact, and mode(s) of communication that will accommodate both participants' schedules.
Mentoring
The mentoring relationship will continue as long as necessary or until circumstances may compel a termination of the active match. There will be periodic communication from the ASCE e-Mentoring staff to verify active status, and address any opportunities or concerns.
Closing, Ending, Starting Over
Once the protégé's goals have been achieved or circumstances dictate ending the relationship, either the mentor or the protégé will terminate the active relationship in the e-Mentoring system. This will allow the protégé to search for another mentor and place the mentor back into the available pool for access by other searching protégés.
