T. Y. Lin Award

THE AWARD:
The ASCE Prestressed Concrete Award was endowed in 1968 by T. Y. Lin, F.ASCE, to encourage the preparation of meaningful papers in the designated field of endeavor. The award was instituted by the Board of Direction in May 1968. By Board action in October 1969 the name of the award was changed to the T. Y. Lin Award.

CRITERIA:
  • I. All papers written or coauthored by members of ASCE that deal with prestressed concrete and which are published in the twelve-month period ending with June of the year preceding the year of award are eligible. Preference is given to papers written by younger authors.
  • II. The American Concrete Institute and the Prestressed Concrete Institute will each be invited to nominate a single paper selected from their respective publications (which meet the foregoing criteria) for judging along with the single paper selected by the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE from any ASCE publication.
  • III. The three papers thus selected will be reviewed by a committee composed of one member each from the American Concrete Institute and the Prestressed Concrete Institute, and one or more members from the Structural Engineering Institute-one of whom will be the Chair. This committee recommends a nominee to the Structural Engineering Institute Board of Governors for final action.
  • IV. The author(s) of the selected paper will receive a plaque, a certificate, and a cash prize determined annually by and subject to the approval of the Society Awards Committee based on the income from the award endowment, to be shared equally by the authors. In the case of a paper written jointly by members and non-members, the non-members will receive only a certificate.

NOMINATION TIMING:
Six copies of the nomination should reach the ASCE National Office by November 1.
