National Concrete Canoe Competition What: After months of hard work, calculations, and practice, practice, practice, hundreds of civil engineering students have gathered in Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the “America’s Cup of Civil Engineering”: the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) 22nd Annual National Concrete Canoe Competition. Thursday, June 12 the students participate in aesthetics judging, floatation tests and other events, Friday they present academic papers on their design and construction, and Saturday they participate in a series of endurance and sprint races in the canoes they designed and built out of concrete. Footage will include b-roll of the canoe races on Saturday as well as individual interviews with each team.
