Peer Review for Public Agencies

Peer Reviewer Information

What Peer Reviewers Are Saying

"Lifting the image of government service through effectiveness and bolstering the confidence of agency leaders is extremely rewarding to me."

D. Michael Mucha, P.E., M.ASCE
Director of Public Works
Olympia, Washington
Peer Reviewer and Committee on
Peer Review for Public Agencies Past-Chair

"Many of us had become civil engineers because we saw the potential of having some influence over the quality of our built environment. We are graded every day by the public on the work we do. So that work has to meet the highest standards of professionalism, engineering skills and leadership. Serving on the Peer Review Committee has provided me with the opportunity to share a career's worth of experience with a remarkable group of Civil Engineers, and collectively share the "lessons learned" and models of best practice with those on the daily firing line."

Robert (Buz) Paaswell, Ph.D., P.E., FASCE
Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering and
Director, University Transportation Research Center

"Peer reviewers participating in a review gain a sense of self-satisfaction or pride at the end of the review process, knowing that the agency will reap benefits from taking advantage of any identified opportunities for change.

Peer reviewers will have an opportunity to work closely as a team with colleagues who most likely hold similar management level positions in their respective agencies. With the combined skills and experiences of this team, the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges facing the agency being reviewed will be quickly identified.

Peer reviewers gain insight on processes/procedures that other agencies use, and are able to determine strengths and weaknesses for their own benefit."

Michael E. Quan, P.E., M.ASCE
Manager, Construction Management Bureau
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission
