ASCE Program Evaluator

Thank you for your interest in becoming an ASCE EAC/ABET program evaluator. Enclosed is information about the accreditation process, and how to become an ASCE Program Evaluator.

QUALIFICATIONS
ASCE's Committee on Curricula and Accreditation (CC&A) is responsible for appointing program evaluators to the rosters utilized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) when making up their accreditation visitation teams. In considering new appointments to the ASCE rosters, CC&A requires individuals to possess the following qualifications:

  1. Professional registration in the state of employment at the time of nomination and appointment.
  2. Currently practicing engineering (industry, private practice, construction, government, engineering education, etc.) with a minimum of ten (10) years experience.
  3. Stated willingness to conduct visits and all associated activities in accordance with the requirements of ABET and ASCE.
  4. ASCE member in good standing in the Member or Fellow grade.

CC&A will give preference to individuals who possess the following qualifications:

  1. For Civil Engineering, an accredited Bachelors Engineering Degree plus an MSCE; for Architectural Engineering and Construction Engineering, an accredited Bachelors Engineering Degree.
  2. History of service to ASCE.

REQUIRED TRAINING

For those who are appointed to the Program Evaluators' roster, CC&A requires the following training to be completed prior to becoming an official ASCE Program Evaluator:

  1. Attendance at a CC&A-sponsored Accreditation Forum which is a half-day training session offered at ASCE national conventions and at other locations around the country from time to time.
  2. Participating in an ABET accreditation visit as an official ASCE Observer. The arrangements with the Observer, the university being visited and the ABET Team Chair will be coordinated by ASCE's Coordinator of Education Activities. ASCE will reimburse the Observer for the round-trip coach airfare or mileage, if over 50 miles one-way, and a per diem allowance according to the then prevailing ASCE rate. It should be realized that the ASCE per diem may not cover all expenses incurred.
  3. Other equivalent training and experience may be considered by CC&A on a case-by-case basis.
HOW DO I APPLY?

Complete the Specialty Selection and Questionnaire*, and the ABET Biographical Data Form. Typed Biographical Data Forms are required to ensure high quality copies.

The application deadline is September 15th each year. CC&A will review all evaluator applications and all applicants will be notified of their status following EdAC Committee Weekend.

Please mail your original completed ABET Biographical Data Form and ASCE Specialty Selection Questionnaire to:
