Report Card for America's Infrastructure

The Grades

A well-designed and maintained infrastructure anchors our economy and quality of life, and secures the public's health and well-being. Investment in infrastructure is vital to our nation's productivity, competitiveness and economic success.

As the experts entrusted with the responsibility of designing, building and maintaining America's infrastructure, the American Society of Civil Engineers feels an obligation to inform the American public and our nation's leaders about the condition of our roads, bridges, water systems and other public works.
The 2003 Progress Report for America's Infrastructure examines current trends that have affected the nation's deteriorating infrastructure since ASCE gave a discouraging D+ overall and estimated a needed $1.3 trillion investment in 2001.

The Progress Report also discusses actions the federal government should take to bring conditions to acceptable levels.
