Dr. Andrea E. Surovek is an Associate Professor and the William V. Coyle Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where she has been on faculty since 2003. She received her PhD from Georgia Tech in 2001, and her BSCE, BA and MSCE degrees from Purdue University. She is a registered Professional Engineer in South Dakota. Her research areas include structural stability, structural design and creativity in engineering. Dr. Surovek is the immediate past chair of the Metals TAC for ASCE/SEI and previously served as the Chair of the Structural Members Committee. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Structural Stability Research Council (SSRC), and serves on AISC Task Committee 3. She was an Associate Editor for the Journal of Structural Engineering and served as a guest editor for the September 2011 issue commemorating 10 years of research since 9/11. She is the recipient of the ASEE Beer and Johnston Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award, the SDSM&T Bernard Ennenga Award for Excellence in Teaching, the SSRC Vinnakota Award and the ASEE Seeley Fellowship.
