Craig Copelan has had an interesting career in transportation with his employer Caltrans. He has experience in a range of areas from bridges to Intelligent Transportation Systems and highway safety. He has licenses in Civil Engineering and Traffic Engineering. An active participant within the structural engineering community he authors articles, and assists the professional community with the development of technical conferences. He currently serves on the scientific committee for the third International Orthotropic Bridge Conference which will be held in Sacramento in June 2013. He has been active within his profession holding office in a variety of positions within ASCE including terms as President for the Capital branch in Sacramento, the Sacramento Section for Northern California and the California Council for the California Region. He has been a force within the engineering workplace serving as President of a large union which represents engineers in state service the Professional Engineers in California Government for two terms in 2000 and 2006; he remains active and interested in labor issues and advocacy. He has been a strong supporter of professional licensure within technical areas and served a term as President of the California Board for Geologists and Geophysicists from 2004 to 2008.
