Dr. Necati Catbas is an educator and researcher, currently serving as a Professor at the University of Central Florida. He started as a practicing structural engineer working on rehabilitation of structures from earthquakes. Upon receiving his doctoral degree, he has focused on improving safety and operation of civil infrastructure systems by means of novel technologies and approaches . Dr. Catbas and his team focus on theoretical, experimental & applied aspects of structural identification, structural health monitoring, non-destructive evaluation, condition assessment of structural systems. Dr. Catbas has several publications and research projects on the development, integration and implementation of sensing, information, modeling and simulation technologies, parametric and nonparametric structural identification, image-based technologies for structures such as bridges, buildings, aerospace structures and components, stadium structures. He is also the Chair of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Structural Identification Technical Committee, which recently prepared the book “Structural Identification of Constructed Systems Approaches, Methods, and Technologies for Effective Practice of St-Id,” published by Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE. He also served as the Chair of ASCE SEI Technical Committee Safety of Bridges. He is currently member of several ASCE SEI and EMI Technical Committees.
