Dr. Jimenez serves not only as a leader, but also as a mentor. His leadership role has manifested itself through many initiatives, such as: development of an on-boarding process for new hires, establishment of standard operating procedures for project report templates and guidelines, protocols for the QA/QC processes for the group, and in house training modules for structural engineers. Gabriel also participates on many committees within his company. Gabriel has also taken a leadership role in professional engineering organizations. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Within this organization he is an active member of the selective ASCE/SEI technical committee on Load and Resistance Factor Design (Methods of Design). He is a member of the Structural Stability Research Council where, again, he belongs to the “Beams” and “Columns” prestigious task groups which are typically attended by internationally renowned professors of structural engineering. Gabriel is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction and the International Concrete Repair Institute where he has given technical presentations to various chapters throughout the United States. Gabriel’s touch of creativity is manifested daily in his projects by creating opportunities with young engineers to express their ideas while exploring innovative ways of solving challenging problems. Gabriel has established an outstanding reputation with his clients and often goes well beyond the call of duty. While working in the diagnostics’ group he is always “on call” for the needs of his clients. On many occasions Gabriel has been asked to respond to time sensitive emergencies where the quick intervention of a structural engineer is required and he has always managed to arrange his schedule to accommodate clients who express a need. For example, Gabriel was one of the first engineers to arrive to New Orleans after the Katrina hurricane to evaluate the structural integrity of the parking garages adjacent to the superdome during the evacuation process. The evaluation of the 5000 car garages was completed in a record time of 2 days working days and nights.
