John G Tawresey is a Vice President and past Chief Financial Officer for KPFF Consulting Engineers, Seattle Washington, a 800 person civil and structural engineering firm. He grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, attended Cornell University and moved to Seattle in 1968 to work on the structural design of the Boeing Supersonic Transport. He left Boeing in 1973 to join KPFF Consulting Engineers.
As CFO of KPFF for 37 years, John provided a business philosophy that emphasized the practice of the engineering profession – the profession first and the business second. This philosophy resulted in a firm that grew from 30 employees in 1973 to more than 800 employees today.
He is past president of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE, past president of the Structural Engineers Risk Management Council, past president of the Masonry Society, member of the ASCE 7 Main Committee, member of the ASCE National Technical Program Committee, member of the MSJC [masonry standard] Main Committee and chairs the Professional Practice Committee of the Structural Engineers of Washington.
John is a member of the Bainbridge Island Washington School Board and an adjunct professor at the University of Washington where he has taught CEE 455 for the past 25 years.
