Joseph M. Ales Jr., Ph.D., S.E. is a Principal and Managing Director of the Los Angeles office of Walter P Moore. He has 18 years of experience as a Structural Engineer and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Texas at Austin. He is a registered professional engineer in nine states. Dr. Ales has been involved in SEI since its inception, serving in various capacities including past chair of the Committee on Structural Connections, past member of the Local Activities Division, past member of the Board of Governors, and founder and current vice-chair of the Joint SEI-CASE Committee on Building Information Modeling. In 2006 he was named an inaugural member of the Building Design and Construction Magazine “40 under 40”, an honor recognizing rising stars in the AEC industry. Much of his work has been focused in the areas of post-tensioned concrete structures, long span structures, and sports structures of various types. Some of his recent projects include the University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals; Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins; and Farmers Field, the proposed NFL stadium in downtown Los Angeles.
