Taka Kimura obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his master’s degree from Stanford University. As a Senior Principal Engineer with Parsons Brinckerhoff in Honolulu, Hawaii, Taka specializes in segmental and post-tensioned bridge design and has worked on several large projects nationwide including the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Bridge in Richmond, Virginia and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge in Charleston, South Carolina. He also serves as the head of Parsons Brinckerhoff’s Bridge Design and Engineering Practice Area Network; a company-run community of practice responsible for information exchange between 600+ bridge related engineers worldwide.
Taka has been an SEI member since its inception in 1996 and has played an active role as Structural Technical Group Chair for the ASCE Colorado Section, Local Activities Division Chair and SEI representative to the ASCE International Activities Committee. He currently sits on the SEI Board of Governors and serves as the SEI Vice President.
Education is a passion for Taka. He represents the Student Initiatives Committee on the SEI Board of Governors and started a Community Outreach Committee to encourage SEI Chapters to perform student outreach activities and provide them with tools to succeed. Outside of SEI, Taka serves on the Hawaii FIRST LEGO League Executive Board and is on a Hawaii Department of Education committee to develop industry partnerships for STEM education.
