Theodore (Ted) Galambos is Emeritus Professor of Structural Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He joined ASCE as a student in 1949, advancing in rank to distinguished membership. He received his degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of North Dakota (BS and MS) and Lehigh University (PhD). Prior to his academic career he gained experience in the US Army Corps of Engineers, and designing power plant structures At Babcock and Wilcox. His teaching and research career was at Lehigh, Washington (St. Louis) and Minnesota Universities. Galambos was actively involved in many technical committees of ASCE/SEI during his career, including Flexure, Compression, Safety and Reliability, Load and Resistance Factor Design, and ASCE/7. He received numerous ASCE awards, including the Newmark medal. He is member of the National Academy of Engineering and of the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineers.
