Thomas Sputo is a consulting structural engineer with the Gainesville, Florida firm of Sputo and Lammert Engineering, LLC, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering at the University of Florida, and the Technical Director of the Steel Deck Institute. His professional practice is broad based, but focuses on cold-formed steel, structural steel, and miscellaneous metals design. He is active in the area of codes and standards development, participating in code development activities with the American Iron and Steel Institute, the American Welding Society, the American Institute of Steel Construction, and the Steel Deck Institute. His teaching activities at the University of Florida have focused in the areas of structural design and professional practice. At the University of Florida, he has served as the faculty advisor to the ASCE Student Chapter and Florida Structural Engineers Association Student Chapter. He is SECB certified and holds a P.E. license in twelve states plus a S.E. license in Illinois. He graduated from The Citadel with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and from the University of Florida with an M.E. and Ph.D. in Structural Engineering.
