Victor E. Van Santen is a Senior Structural Engineer with HDR Engineering, Inc. He has over 16 years of experience on highway, pedestrian and railroad bridge projects involving planning, analysis, design, construction, inspection and management. Mr. Van Santen's experience also includes reviewing structural designs, writing and reviewing specifications, and preparing cost estimates. He is a registered Professional Engineer and Structural Engineer in Illinois. He received his BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineer at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1995 and 1997, respectively. Mr. Van Santen has been involved with ASCE since 1992 as a student member. Over the past 20 years he has served ASCE and SEI in several leadership positions. He is a past Chair of the SEI Illinois Chapter and was on the Local Planning Committee for the Structures 2012 Congress. He is Vice-Chair of the SEI Local Activities Division and Director in the ASCE Illinois Section. Mr. Van Santen has also advanced the Structural Engineering profession through public involvement and student outreach. He represented ASCE in a press conference on the condition of Chicagoland infrastructure and served as SEI ambassador to Spanish Civil Engineers in America. He also participated in outreach events such as Future Cities Competition.
