ASCE Responds to Gulf Coast Hurricane Devastation
Louisiana Section Members, click here. What do you need? Click here to let ASCE know what your area needs. Suspended Member Publications The U.S. Postal Service has suspended periodicals delivery service to a number of zip codes as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This has proved to be a shifting situation for mailers, as service has sometimes been restored only to be disrupted again. The U.S. Postal Service posts notices daily on its Web site, www.usps.com, under Hurricane Service Updates, about which zip codes are affected. ASCE is mailing member publications, Civil Engineering magazine and ASCE News, to all zip codes where delivery is allowed by the U.S. Postal Service. If you are in an affected zip code or believe that your mail service has been disrupted by these storms, please contact us. To claim back issues of these publications, call (800) 548-ASCE (2723) or e-mail member@asce.org. To reactivate your subscription, please visit www.asce.org/myprofile and update your contact information. Update - ASCE Will Waive 2006 Dues to Hurricane Affected Members Membership renewal packages are not being sent to the affected areas at this time. To renew online, go to www.asce.org/renewal. ASCE will waive the 2006 dues of members affected by Hurricane Katrina upon request by emailing member@asce.org or by calling (800) 548-ASCE (2723). Looking for work, housing or office space? Click here for immediate job, school, office space and housing opportunities. ASCE is also offering free "position wanted ads" in Civil Engineering magazine and ASCE News for members displaced from their jobs. Contact Sean Scully sscully@asce.org, or visit the Career Connections site to search our extensive job bank or upload your resume. College Students and Faculty in the Hurricane Affected Area College students who are attending schools that are facing long termed closure due to Hurricane Katrina may choose to seek temporary admission at other institutions across the United States. Many schools have special arrangements for admissions, credit transfer, etc. In addition, displaced faculty should consider contacting other institutions for official/lab space to continue their work while their home institution is closed. For web access directly into civil and engineering departments thoughout the U.S., please go to http://www.asce.org/community/educational/instlist.cfm. Click here for a list of specific schools with programs in place to assist displaced students and faculty. Click here or here for links to missing person sites. MBNA Payment Deferrals on ASCE Credit Cards MBNA America, provider of ASCE's Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards, is extending payment holidays on all accounts to two months and waiving late fees at all stages of delinquency for customers in affected areas. In addition, they are helping customers obtain emergency cash, develop a process to increase credit lines, heighten Credit Protection, expedite priority plate requests to alternate addresses and provide customer service adjustments. Contact MBNA directly at 800-421-2110 if you have any questions. Marsh Prevents Lapse of Insured Members' Coverage Marsh, the world's leading risk and insurance services firm and provider of ASCE's insurance, has taken the necessary steps to prevent the inadvertent lapse of insured members' coverage that have fallen victim to Hurricane Katrina. New York Life has led the way by providing a sixty-day grace period for receipt of premiums due from those with addresses in affected counties - other carriers will also follow suit. Marsh has continued to send all first class mail, including Certificates of Insurance, Premium Notices and Claim Payments because, for the majority of insured members, this continues to be the most efficient means of contact. For General Life & Health Insurance questions, please call 800-650-2723.
