Why are you an ASCE member? Why do you renew your membership each year? Do you ask others to join? The answers to these questions are crucial to ASCE's future. My goal for ASCE is to strengthen our organization's position to civil engineers and our profession. To accomplish this goal, I would appreciate serving the members in Region 4 over the next three years as your Region 4 Director to focus on our Society's continued relevance.
As an officer for our local Branch and state Section, I am keenly aware of the importance of the flow of information and resources between local groups and the Society. As a Regional Governor, I participated in positioning and operating Region 4 to better facilitate this flow. Serving on ASCE's Membership Committee and our new Member Communities Committee (MCC), I gained different perspectives on the importance of members and continued to serve as member advocate. As current MCC Chair, I am helping to lead a group of dedicated volunteers who are developing and implementing services and programs to better serve our members.
Our members are involved in ASCE for a variety of reasons. Student members may join for comradery (and canoes!); younger members may join for the professional career enrichment programs available; institute members may join for the depth of our technical offerings; branch members may join for local networking opportunities; life members may join to have opportunities to give back to the profession. Whatever your reason for joining may be, I want ASCE to offer that avenue for you and become your second home.
My vison for ASCE is for our Society to remain relevant for all civil engineers across the large diversity of disciplines that our profession offers. If you care about your profession, you should be a member of ASCE and encourage other civil engineers to join. I want to assure your involvement in ASCE will be fun, easy, and fulfilling. I am committed to ASCE and want to help all our members feel they can be as well, and at whatever level feels comfortable. I would appreciate your support for the office of Region 4 Director on the ASCE Board of Direction.
