ASCE has placed emphasis on many different initiatives, from Infrastructure to Sustainability to Raise the Bar. During my first term as Governor, I endeavored to do my part to educate those not familiar with these issues and engage our policy makers in dialogue about all three. However, if elected to a second term, my goal is to increase the engagement with the students in the region, furthering the Society's effort with student transition. I have been actively involved in adding a third student chapter in the state of Kansas, and I have seen firsthand the benefits that students bring to our Society's ranks. They offer new ideas and seek out the challenges civil engineering poses in today's world. Showing them the benefits of continuing their involvement with ASCE is the key to growing our membership not only in numbers, but in the quality of our members. It is crucial that we assist these current students as they leave academia and join us in the workplace, for they will become the face of ASCE as future leaders of our organization.
