Over the last 7 years, ASCE Region 10 has been changing and the potential of growing is something that can bring many positive things to the entire organization. I have had the opportunity to work in the Region 10 in the last 5 years and I have discovered it does not matter where we held our meetings and activities, Civil Engineers all around the world are facing the same problems and we share the same concerns: energy, environment, infrastructure, safety, water and their respective repercussions on the economy.
Civil Engineers should take the leadership in proposing solutions to most of the problems that humanity is facing now. I am not referring just to our professional practice. I am referring to the fact that Civil Engineers should be involved at the making decisions level in governments and organizations. It is a "must" if you think that we still have people with no access to potable water to cover their basic needs.
It is my firm intention, as Region 10 Governor, to challenge and encourage members to work in this way. I do believe I will bring a vision according to Region 10 being from Latin America, pursuing a professional career in North America and with education from Europe. I can offer my energy and motivation to serve my colleagues in a wide a variety region as Region 10.
