Snow Load 101 - Basics
The seminar reviews snow provisions in ASCE 7-05 such as the ground snow load map and sources of assistance for case studies, sloped roof snow loads, roof step and parapet wall drift loads, sliding loads, unbalanced loads for gable roofs, and rain-on-snow loading. It presents a complete snow load example for two abutting gable roof structures at a moderate ground snow load site. This example highlights balanced, unbalanced and roof step drift provisions. A complete snow load example for a hip roof at a low ground snow load site is presented next. This example highlights minimum loads, rain-on-snow surcharge load as well as unbalanced loads on a hip roof. The seminar is co-sponsored by ASCE's Structural Engineering Institute and ASCE Continuing Education.
