Start a Professional Chapter

Don't see a professional SEI Chapter in your area? Mobilize volunteer members and start planning activities today! Work with your local ASCE Section or Branch to complete the sample MOU (PDF). Email the MOU with a cover letter stating your plans to start and hold events. You will be contacted by SEI Staff after we receive your MOU with the next steps.

SEI Graduate Student Chapters

Unique to SEI, Graduate Student Chapters (GSC) can broaden your view of what it means to be a structural engineering professional and prepare for a successful transition from student/college to career professional. These chapters focused solely on graduate students receive the same benefits as a local professional chapter (listed above).

Don't see an SEI GSC at your university?

Mobilize volunteer members and start planning activities today! Request permission from your sponsoring Department Chair, provide a letter of support, complete the sample MOU and submit with your online application. You will be contacted by SEI Staff with the next steps.

Chapter Chair Resources

Ensure your members receive all eligible ASCE/SEI benefits by keeping their profile up-to-date manually or by contacting ASCE Customer Service.
New members join regularly so remember to request the current contact list of SEI members to invite to your events from your local ASCE Section/Branch leadership.
Use your SEI Chapter or GSC logo on your website, newsletter, flyers, and social media. Access your hi-res logo files with the ASCE Branding Tool Kit.
Take advantage of all the resources including PR and Government Relations training, social media guidance, and younger member resources offered by the ASCE Leader Training Committee (LTC).
With your ASCE/SEI login you have access to multiple forums on ASCE Collaborate to connect with your peers, colleagues, and the society as a whole. Besides the two forums linked below, your chapter, section, or committee may also have their own page - check with your leadership to see what's available for you!

SEI Chapters have the benefit of a free (once a year) ASCE Continuing Education webinar. To request this benefit visit the ASCE MyLearning Catalog to select a live or on-demand webinar. Email the title, date, and reference number at least 1 week in advance of when it's scheduled. You will receive confirmation and further instructions from SEI Staff. Be sure to allow adequate time to plan, organize, and promote it!
