ASCE Infrastructure Resilience Division Meeting

IRD Division Group

The ASCE Infrastructure Resilience (IRD) Executive Committee and project leads representative of the 5 IRD technical committees: Civil Infrastructure And Lifeline Systems Committee (CILSC); Disaster Response And Recovery Committee (DRRC); IRD Emerging Technologies Committee (ETC); Risk And Resilience Measurements Committee (RRMC); and Social Science, Policy, Economics, Education Decision Committee (SPEED), met on May 11-12, 2017 in Reston, VA.  The purpose of this meeting was to review and develop infrastructure resilience related projects The specific objectives were:

  • Review existing projects, facilitate their completion, and define the timeline and products
  • Engage in brainstorming discussion to identify new projects or strategic initiative

Craig Davis Meeting participants were treated to a special Le Val Lund Award Lecture from the 2016 Le Val Lund Award Winner Craig A. Davis, Ph.D., PE, GE, Water System Resilience Program Manager, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power"Operationalizing Resilience for Lifeline Systems."

Dr. Craig Davis has thirty years of experience in lifeline system resilience for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) where he holds the position of Water System Resilience Program Manager. He is a California licensed Civil and Geotechnical Engineer, with extensive background in lifeline earthquake engineering for the evaluation planning, design, and construction for water systems. Dr. Davis is currently implementing a comprehensive LA Water System seismic resilience program. He is appointed to the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) Advisory Committee on Earthquake Hazards Reduction (ACEHR). Dr. Davis is the founding Executive Committee chairperson for the ASCE Infrastructure Resilience Division.

IRD Executive Committee Chair, Bilal Ayyub, Ph.D., P.E., Dist.M.ASCE thanking past IRD Executive Committee member Chris Poland, P.E., S.E., NAE, F.SEI, M.ASCE for his dedication and support to the IRD Executive Committee (October 1, 2014 - September 30, 2016).
