ASCE’s Architectural Engineering Institute Announces Winners of 2020 AEI Professional Project Award

Thursday, April 2, 2020

The  Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) is pleased to announce the Arizona State University Student Pavilion (HGA) and One Manhattan West (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, LLP) Best Overall Projects winners for AEI's Professional Project Awards.

Traditionally, AEI announces project winners during its annual Awards Banquet; however, ASCE made the decision to cancel this year's program due the nationwide COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and CDC guidelines to avoid large gatherings. ASCE is committed to reducing the risk of adverse health impacts to the thousands of ASCE members, guests, and staff that participate in conferences, and holds paramount the health, safety, and welfare of the public.

The AEI Professional Project Award recognizes outstanding achievements in design and construction by honoring the art and science of an integrated approach to architectural engineering. The program focuses on high performance buildings including structural, mechanical, electrical and lighting systems as well as construction management and architectural engineering integration. Projects are evaluated on originality and innovative character, integration and collaboration, sustainability, energy efficiency and economics, effective use of technology and constructability and site logistics.

"This year's winning projects demonstrate just how effective a building can be when state-of-the-art design meets innovative construction methods," said AEI President Scott Campbell, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE. "Each project serves a communal purpose as a social space-, connecting students, employees, entrepreneurs, and local citizens through dynamic and efficient architecture. These are the qualities that advance the architectural engineering industry."

In addition to Best Overall Project, the Corning Museum of Glass (Altieri Sebor Wieber, LLC) and Tianjin CTF Finance Center (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, LLP) won the awards for Most Innovative Projects. View the full list of AEI-PPA Winners

Awards submissions were reviewed by a committee of jurors including distinguished members of the design and construction industry and representatives from AEI's Board of Governors and Academic Council.
