    Port Engineering Certificate Program

    ASCE's new Port Engineering Certificate Program is a series of career-focused courses taught by practicing engineers and university professors providing professional engineers in-demand skills used in the field of port engineering.

    In these 12-week courses, you'll acquire sought-after skills that will help you excel in your current position or advance to a new one. You'll be taught from the unique insight and knowledge of a master's level instructor who is highly experienced in port engineering.

    • Introduction to Port Engineering
      This course will provide a general background in port engineering. The course will give the specific requirements of various types of facilities and prepare the student for the engineering tasks required for port facilities.
    • Design of Port Facilities
      This course builds on the Introduction to Port Engineering and will cover wave theories, Morison's equation, mooring and berthing, design of fixed structures/topsides, submerged pipelines, rehabilitation of geriatric structures, and some basic marine geotechnical issues.
    • Construction of Port Facilities
      The main objective of this course is to introduce professionals to the construction practices used widely for ports and harbors. The knowledge gained from this course will enhance the practitioner's credentials in managing the process of capital improvement projects for the ports and harbors practices.
    • Seismic Design of Piers and Wharves
      This course will help engineers and other practitioners understand the history of codes and standards, the fundamentals of seismic design, the background of ASCE 61-14 provisions, and the practical implementation of seismic design for piers and wharves with illustrative examples.
    • Geotechnical Design of Port Facilities
      This course will provide a general background on the geotechnical design of port facilities. The aspects covered include geotechnical explorations and the interpretation of geotechnical data, the estimate of seismic hazards, and the analysis and design of port facilities.
