Dr. Yuri Shur Delivers the Eb Rice Memorial Lecture

Eb Rice Memorial Lecture
at the joint meeting of the Fairbanks ASCE chapter with the Alaska Society of Professional Engineers (ASPE) on January 15, 2020 in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Dr. Shur is a distinguished Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) located in Fairbanks, Alaska. He received his Civil Engineering degree from Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, Permafrost Engineering degree from the Institute of Geotechnics and his Permafrost Geology education from USSR Research Institute of Hydrology & Engineering Geology all located in Moscow, Russia. Dr. Shur arrived in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1992. He worked for UAF and several consultants in Anchorage, Alaska before becoming a Professor of Civil Engineering at UAF in 2001.
The lecture and award were established in 1985 in memory of Elbert F. Rice, long time professor who created a program of Arctic Engineering at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. This award recognizes outstanding individuals in Cold Regions Engineering Education. An honorarium amount, set by the University of Alaska, is awarded along with a plaque and certificate.
