PORTS 16 Student Competition Announced

COPRI is hosting a student paper competition for the upcoming PORTS '16 Conference . The competition is open to all Undergraduate and Masters students. The paper can be part of a class project or graduation requirement.

Submissions are due April 8, 2016  to the PORTS '16 Student & Younger Member Committee - start planning your entry now!

The top four Undergraduate and top four Masters entries will be selected to attend PORTS '16. These students will receive:

  • Free conference registration, hotel stay for 3 nights in New Orleans and a $500 travel stipend
  • Cash prizes for First and Second place papers
  • Your name published in the conference program as a student award-winner
  • Optional publication in the electronic conference proceedings after the conference
  • Networking opportunities with students, young professionals, and experienced professionals
  • Access to the exhibit hall, where you can learn about career opportunities in the field

Submission Requirements: Undergraduate Competition

Paper topics include coastal, environmental, general-civil, geotechnical, ocean, structural, and transportation engineering. Submissions should include your PDF paper, PDF presentation, and a recorded video presentation uploaded to YouTube.

Paper Submission Guidelines:

  • Submit PDF paper, limited to 8 pages
  • Authors should be clearly indicated
  • PORTS '16 Conference Paper Formatting instructions
  • Professors are not allowed as coauthors or presenters
  • Students may submit papers as a team, however, conference and travel costs will only be covered for up to two team members. 

Presentation Submission Guidelines: 

  • Submit PDF PowerPoint Presentation and YouTube Video
  • Presentation/video is limited to 10 minutes
  • Not all team members are required to present
  • The video should show you, your team members (if presenting), and your presentation materials (i.e. PowerPoint slides, models)

Papers and presentations are due on April 8, 2016 . Submit your paper, PDF presentation and a link to your video on YouTube to the PORTS '16 Student & Younger Member Committee .

Submission Requirements Masters Competition

Paper topics include coastal, environmental, general-civil, geotechnical, ocean, structural, and transportation engineering. Submissions should include your paper and a PDF presentation.

The top four entries in the Masters competition will attend the conference and present during technical sessions on Monday, June 13.

  • Submit PDF paper, limited to 8 pages
  • Authors should be clearly indicated
  • PORTS '16 Final Paper Formatting instructions
  • Professors are not allowed as coauthors or presenters.
  • Students may submit papers as a team, however, conference and travel costs will only be covered for up to two team members. 

The PowerPoint presentation should be submitted prior to the conference for review. Additional speaker guidelines will be posted for all conference attendees on the PORTS '16 conference website at a later date.
