Louisiana COPRI Chapter Update

The Louisiana COPRI Chapter continues to be active and engages local COPRI members, engineers, and professionals with seminars on important issues, and through community service and student outreach.
On April 29, 2015, L.COPRI held a seminar at the Port of New Orleans on Mississippi River navigation and maintenance.
The event featured Steve Jones, Chief of Navigation for the Mississippi Valley Division, discussing the Mississippi River system from a programmatic perspective. His talk included dredging activities and an overview of inland navigation in the US.
Don Rawson with the USACE New Orleans District also discussed the lower Mississippi River bank stabilization program, including challenges and data collection.
Students & Younger Members
On March 21, 2015, the L.COPRI Young Professionals Group (YPG) participated in the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation Spring Sweep.
The event included 530 volunteers collecting approximately 3,530 pounds of trash and 36 bags of recyclables. The Spring Sweep is part of Keep America Beautiful's Great American Clean-Up.
The YPG also participated in the ASCE Student meeting at the University of New Orleans on April 15. They presented information on the field of coastal engineering.
