Call for Standards Committee Members - ASCE/CORPI Design Standards for Piers and Wharves

Thursday, September 14, 2017

The Coasts, Oceans, Ports and Rivers Institute (COPRI) of ASCE is seeking members for the newly authorized Standards Committee titled "Design Standards for Piers and Wharves."  The purpose of this standard is to provide a consensus-driven, single resource document that provides consistent analysis and design guidance for determining loads, load combinations, and load factors for mooring, berthing, and wave/current forces. This design standard will incorporate and reference the newly completed ASCE/COPRI Standard 61-14, titled "Seismic Design of Piers and Wharves."

Benefits of joining the committee include the following:

  • Providing input to a Piers and Wharves Standards that includes:
    1. Jurisdiction Applicability of Structure Type and Use
    2. Basis of Design
    3. Methods of Structural Analysis
    4. Geotechnical Criteria and Structural Modeling
    5. Design Procedures
    6. Design for Extreme Events
    7. Sustainable Design
    8. Marina Design
    9. Design Codes
  • Developing an industry needed comprehensive guidance document that references and integrates the more than 30 national and international existing standards and guidelines
  • Participating in the decision process of creating a consistent guidance that supports streamlining the design, check, quality, and approval processes
  • Influencing the research-specific funding for studying industry best practices for design issues related to piers and wharves analysis and design

Membership on CORPI/ASCE Standards Committees is open to all those who might reasonably be expected to be or who indicate they are directly affected by the activity without dominance by any single interest group: Producer, Consumer and General, and Regulator. Those interested in serving the committee should apply online.
