President's Message: Engaging Our Community

This year we celebrate the 20
founding anniversary of COPRI! As one of 9 technical institutes of ASCE, the nation's oldest engineering society, we acknowledge and appreciate our collective two decades of our shared advancement and dissemination of scientific and engineering knowledge, expansion of our professional relationships, and a shared understanding for the mutual benefit of our coasts, oceans, ports, and rivers. Because of our common Institute goals, mission statement, and, more importantly, our people, we have formed a 4,000-plus member, and highly specialized community of eight professional chapters, nine student chapters, and thirty-seven sub technical committees that serve the local, regional, national, & international COPRI needs.
With every new year, particularly a new decade, we set goals with the intent of improving ourselves in targeted aspects of our personal and professional lives. COPRI is no different in that we have looked inward to see how we can improve by engaging our members, providing safe, resilient and sustainable infrastructure, and elevating our education and professional standards in a way that identifies a means to excel beyond our previous successes.
