This webinar will discuss the impact of project management knowledge gap in professional engineering curricula found in most US university bachelors’ degree programs. Civil engineers need project management skill set to advance from an entry-level design position to construction engineering manager position. The discussion will center on the “big three” construction engineering knowledge areas of cost estimating, scheduling, and contract administration. The speakers will also discuss other required soft skills like negotiating, proposal development, contracting, as well as safety and quality management. Dr. Gransberg will provide the perspective from the heavy civil and transportation sector, while Nils will provide his perspective from the commercial building sector. While the focus is on construction engineering, the discussion will cover the broader requirements for engineering and design project managers, who must not only manage the design process but also furnish oversight during construction.
