Message From the EMI President
Monday, December 15, 2014
Dear Members and Friends of EMI:
As I start my second year as President, I look forward to another year of successes, growth and enhancements in all of the services and products our Institute provides to its members and the engineering community. First of all, I thank outgoing Board of Governors members Lori Brady and Andrew Smyth for the years of dedicated service to EMI, and I welcome new members Jose Andrade and George Deodatis.
The past year's highlights include improvements in the statistics of the Journal of Engineering Mechanics, including dramatic reductions in review time and acceptance rate, a meaningful increase in impact factor, and significant increases in the number of submitted manuscripts and published papers.
I invite all of you to participate in EMI International Conference 2015 in Hong Kong (January 7-9), and the EMI 2015 gathering at Stanford University (June 16-19).
As I have done on several occasions, most recently at the highly successful EMI 2014 hosted by McMaster University, I invite you to be actively involved in your Institute. Further growth of EMI will be achieved only if the requisite hard work is shared among us. Opportunities include the delivery of webinars, the writing of the Lecture Notes in Mechanics, active participation on committees that organize conference sessions, ideas on how to increase EMI-industry collaboration, and seeking leadership roles on committees and the Board of Governors.
I wish you an enjoyable and productive year.
