EMI President's Message FY 2019
George Deodatis, Ph.D., F.EMI, M.ASCE
Serving on the EMI Board of Governors for the last four years, and as its President over the last year, has been a unique privilege and honor. In these four years, EMI has done exceptionally well both nationally and internationally. Our Journal of Engineering Mechanics has established itself as one of the premier journals in the field of mechanics under the inspiring leadership of its Editor Roberto Ballarini. Our annual national conference broke the barrier of 1,000 participants for the first time with this year's event at M.I.T. under the galvanizing leadership of Franz-Josef Ulm, Arghavan Louhghalam, Roland Pellenq and Mazdak Tootkaboni. Our institute's awards are considered among the most prestigious in the field. This year, EMI is also in the process of launching a new program named Mentoring Junior Women Scholars in Engineering Mechanics. We are particularly proud about this program that will be officially announced very soon. I sincerely hope I will be able to continue in the same trajectory with the critically important support of the members of the Board of Governors, of EMI Director Amar Chaker, of EMI Senior Manager Verna Jameson, and of all members of EMI serving in various different functions within EMI.
