Structural Health Monitoring and Control Committee
Purpose: to cover the broad areas of engineering mechanics related to (1) Structural Health Monitoring (2) System identification (3) Damage detection (4) Fault isolation and detection (5) Sensor networks, new forms of actuation (6) Smart materials and structures, and (7) Passive, active, semi-active and hybrid structural control. The activities would engage the national and international researchers and practitioners in the broad fields of structural health monitoring and control. Furthermore, the committee will encourage and foster research that will, in the future, support the implementation of structural health monitoring and structural control in practice.
Membership Eligibility: To ensure member engagement, at least two past presentations at EMI conferences are currently required for SHMC committee membership. When applying, please be sure to list the EMI presentations in your resume (you may also highlight the records if you like).

Annual Student Paper Competition
- To increase the involvement of younger professionals in the EMI conferences, particularly in the area of structural health monitoring and control.
- To allow them to interact with the Structural Health Monitoring and Control (SHMC) Committee members and to promote further growth as engineers, develop stronger bonds within the SHMC community, and take responsibilities within the technical community.
- To improve their technical writing and presentation skills, as well as to promote high-quality submissions to the flagship journal of EMI, the Journal of Engineering Mechanics.
