Advocating for Performance Based Design
A few years ago, the Board of Governors undertook strategic planning, including the preparation of guiding document entitled "A Vision for the Future of Structural Engineering and Structural Engineers: A Case for Change." That report addressed many influences on our profession and included a series of recommendations that would proactively and beneficially impact the profession of structural engineering and its service to society.
One of those recommendations was to promote performance based design of structures. The Board of Governors agreed with that recommendations, and formed a task committee to define the issue in detail, and develop a plan to move the profession toward implementation of performance based design. That task committee issued its report, titled "Advocating for Performance Based Design," in April 2018.
