Sustainability at ASCE

  • ASCE defines sustainability as a set of environmental, economic, and social conditions – the “Triple Bottom Line” – in which all of society has the capacity and opportunity to maintain and improve its quality of life indefinitely, without degrading the quantity, quality or the availability of natural, economic, and social resources.

As one of the Society’s three strategic initiatives, ASCE’s focus on sustainability is guided by a Board-level committee and supported by a broad community of local committees and technical groups.

ASCE and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy have agreed to a partnership as part of a new International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure. The collaboration aims to advance practical solutions to adapt infrastructure to a changing climate, close the resilience investment gap and break down barriers to action across the globe.
