Rudolph A. Simoneaux III, P.E., M.ASCE

2020–2023 Region 5 Governor

Vision Statement

The primary goals of the Region 5 governance are to Inspire Members, Create Excitement with the society, and Promote Excellence in the profession. Inspiration and excitement starts by engaging Student Chapter Members through involvement in university activities and events. Additionally, through resources like the Dream Big DVD kits, we are now able to introduce our profession and society to High School and Middle School students. Dream Big is a tremendous resource and provides a user-friendly way for teachers to embrace STEM activities in the classroom. Teaching students to become problem solvers at a young age can put them on a path to a career in engineering.

Promoting excellence within our profession starts with introducing our members to the various technical institutes of ASCE. Many ASCE members subscribe to an institute when they register or renew their membership. Unfortunately, the institutes are not very active on the local level. The Louisiana Section currently supports three active statewide institutes - COPRI, T&DI, and SEI and is currently planning to activate two more. The leadership of Region 5 should encourage our members to become more involved in technical institutes and help usher the creation of more Section-wide chapters of these institutes.
