Fausto B. Burruel, Sr., P.E., M.ASCE

2020–2023 Region 8 Governor

Vision Statement

My vision is to improve the civil engineering community within Region 8 through my action and service.

The role of a Region Governor is to provide information, guidance, and assistance as needed to the Sections within the region while being the intermediary between the Sections and Society. The Region Governor should emphasize the Society's overarching vision, "Civil engineers are global leaders, building a better quality of life" when interacting with Sections. Doing this allows the Sections and their associated groups to construct their own vision and direction with the understanding of how it fits within the Society's vision.

I believe the Society's vision becomes more evident as ASCE's international presence continues to grow. This is evident as Region 8 has expanded to include the Western Region of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering (CSCE). My experience as a member of ASCE and a leader within local government provides a distinct perspective into how infrastructure impacts society's quality of life and how funding, government, and policies influence how projects come about, including the project's long term maintenance. This perspective will help me as I interact with and guide others in my role as Region 8 Governor.
