University of Utah T&DI Graduate Student Chapter Kicks Off Its Activities

Sunday, April 19, 2015

The University of Utah ASCE T&DI Student Chapter is a new chapter initiated in fall 2014. The chapter first kick-off meeting in February 2015 gathered University of Utah graduate students and faculty from transportation engineering, pavement design, and materials. The chapter currently has fifteen graduate student members interested in various transportation issues. Some of the first activities of the chapter include the Engineering Rush and Engineering Week, focused on introducing engineering to high school students. The student chapter members also welcomed a group of children interested to learn about transportation and showcased the Utah Traffic Lab research facility. The chapter already cooperates with other groups, including ITE Student Chapter, ASCE Student Chapter , and ASCE Young Members Forum . The chapter is currently run by the chapter advisor Dr. Richard J. Porter, and four student coordinators who have plenty of experience with student group leadership. Chapter summer activities will be focused on student professional development through guest presentations and Utah ASCE Section involvement. Follow the chapter activities on twitter @UofUTDI .
